By Mike Primeau - Founder of The Playroom Experiment

For the past nine years, most of what I have written has had a destination.

It has often been tied to The Playroom Experiment—what we're doing, what we're learning, what is coming next, and why I believe this work matters. And I love that. I am proud of the story we have been building together.

But I have realized I need another “place”—a blog, if you will.

And I feel I should appropriately call it—Mike's Place.

So, on Sunday mornings, I am going to make a little space for it.

This won't really be about The Playroom Experiment. At least, it won't always be.

It might be about something a child said that made me think differently. It might be about a book, an idea, a mistake, a conversation, or something completely ordinary that somehow caught my attention. Sometimes it may come directly from my work here. Other times, the connection might be pretty distant.

That's intentional.

Nine years of The Playroom Experiment has given me a rather unusual vantage point. I've had the opportunity to watch children grow, work alongside parents and educators, build community groups, experiment with ideas, make mistakes, start over, embrace technology, question technology, celebrate what worked, wrestle with what didn't, and, above all else, not fear any of it.

Nine years is a long time to sit inside one experiment. It changes the way you see things. And I don't want all of those observations to become newsletter content.

Some thoughts deserve a little more room. Some deserve less.

So this is my attempt to create a small, protected space each Sunday to step away from the work—even though the work will inevitably find its way in.

I want these to be short. One thought at a time.

Not a lesson. Not an announcement. Not something that needs to get “buy-in.”

Just something I have been thinking about. And perhaps, somewhere along the way, you'll see a little bit of yourself in it too.

That's the hope.

Nine years have given me a lot of perspective.

On Sundays, I think I'd like to spend some of it with those who want to hang out in the room with me.

I look forward to this journey.
